Iowa City Police Chief recognized by state Police Chiefs Association

IOWA CITY - Iowa City Police Chief Sam Hargadine was named the Iowa Law Enforcement Executive of the Year during a ceremony on Thursday.
The recognition came from the Iowa Police Chiefs Assocation during the organization's Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee conference in Coralville. Hargadine was recognized for his 'commitment and dedication to the Iowa City community and the law enforcement profession,” according to a police department news release.
Hargadine has served as Iowa City's police chief for 11 years. Before that, he worked for the Columbia, Mo. Police Department, achieving the rank of captain. Hargadine also served in the Army.
Since coming to Iowa, Hargadine has served on the board of directors for the Sixth Judicial Correctional District, liaison to the Iowa City Area Crime Stoppers board of directors, the Iowa Police Chiefs Assocation LECC Training Committee, as the Iowa Police Chiefs Assocation treasurer and as Vice President of the Iowa Police Chiefs Association.
'When one thinks of a law enforcement leader in the state of Iowa, Chief Sam Hargadine is most certainly one that comes to mind,” said Jeremy Logan, president of the Iowa Police Chiefs Association, according to the news release. 'Chief Hargadine sets that standard for law enforcement executives and is a critical asset to the law enforcement community, our association and our state.”
Coralville Police Chief Barry Bedford was the 2015 recipient of the Law Enforcement Executive of the Year award.
