Iowa City officer suffers broken ankle during fight with Illinois man

IOWA CITY - An Iowa City police officer suffered a broken ankle during a fight with an Illinois man.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, officers were called to 2 Dogs Pub around 11:42 p.m. May 14 for a report of a man who was assaulting bar patrons and staff. Police said the man, later identified as 27-year-old Tommie J. Clay, of Forest Park, Ill., punched a bar patron in the eye, causing the victim pain, swelling, bleeding and bruising.
Clay fled the bar on foot, but was captured after a short foot chase, police said. Officers returned Clay to the bar to verify he was the one causing problems. While back at the scene of the assault, Clay fought with officers and broke an officer's ankle, police said.
Clay was arrested and faces charges of assault causing bodily injury, interference with official acts causing serious injury and interference with official acts. If convicted of all three charges, he could spend more than three years in prison.
