Iowa City man facing sexual abuse and invasion of privacy charges to enter plea

Jul. 13, 2017 4:52 pm
IOWA CITY - An Iowa City man facing 18 counts of sexual abuse and 22 counts of invasion of privacy is scheduled to enter a plea on Monday.
The details of Nathan Schloss's plea have not been disclosed.
Schloss, now 26, was arrested in December 2014 and was accused of sexually abusing a woman multiple times between May 2012 and September 2013. Authorities said the victim was intoxicated and had no idea she had been abused.
Court documents show the acts were discovered when Schloss unwittingly provided police with evidence of the abuse. Before the arrest, police were investigating the abuse of Schloss's cat, Fritz.
Schloss had recorded his then-roommate, Leo Nopoulos, abusing the cat. While investigating the recordings in that case, police said they discovered videos depicting him abusing the woman.
Police said in search warrant affidavit that 196 videos were extracted from Schloss' hard drive, much of which 'appeared to be homemade pornography.” The videos depicted a woman 'lying naked on a bed” either asleep or passed out and Schloss engaging in sexual activity with her.
'During all of this, the female does not move or respond in any way to the males (sic) actions,” the affidavit states. 'The female's head and arms remain motionless and her eyes are closed.”
Schloss allegedly told police that in each instance, the woman in the video knew about that sexual contact and that she was aware she was being recorded. However, criminal complaints stated the woman was 'clearly incapacitated.”
