Iowa City man faces sex abuse charge

IOWA CITY - An Iowa City man is accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.

According to an Iowa City police criminal complaint, the victim was home alone with 34-year-old Bryant M. Williams on July 19. Police said Williams began tickling the victim and wrestling with her, eventually lying down on her. Police said Williams put his hand down the victim's pants and tried to get her to go into a bedroom with him.

The victim told investigators about Williams' acts during a forensic interview, police said. Williams admitted to wrestling with the victim and lying on top of her, but denied committing the sex act, police said.

Williams has been arrested in Chicago and faces one count of third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. He has not yet been brought to the Johnson County Jail.
