Iowa City man faces felony assault charge after victim burned in attack

IOWA CITY - An Iowa City man faces a felony assault charge after a man fell into a burning couch during a fight.
According to an Iowa City police criminal complaint, around 6 p.m. Nov. 4, 21-year-old Timothy A. Peiffer got into a fight in the courtyard at 12 W. Court St. Police said Peiffer pushed the other man.
During the fight, the victim fell into a couch that had been set on fire before the assault. Police said the victim suffered second- and third-degree burns on his lower back and buttocks. Witnesses confirmed for police that is what took place.
Peiffer was arrested and faces one count of assault causing serious injury, a Class D felony.
