IOWA CITY - An Iowa City man faces burglary and assault charges for an incident alleged to have happened in July.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, officers responded to an apartment on Broadway Street on July 25 for a report of a man assaulting a woman. Responding officers spoke with the victim, who said she had been assaulted by 22-year-old Mack P.A. Hartison.
The woman told police Hartison attacked her and was removed from the home. Hartison then forced his way back into the residence, causing damage to the apartment door. Hartison continued to assault the woman until someone intervened, police said.
Police said the victim suffered a bloody lip and had bite marks and swelling on her hand.
Hartison was arrested this week and faces charges of first-degree burglary, a Class B felony; and domestic assault, a serious misdemeanor. If convicted of both offenses, Hartison faces up to 26 years in prison.
