IOWA CITY - Iowa City police have made an arrest on a theft, burglary and home invasion investigation that stretched across several months.
According to criminal complaints, a residential burglary happened in the 800 block of Maggard Street sometime between Nov. 13 and 14 while the resident was away from home. Police said the residence was 'forcefully entered” and a PlayStation 4 gaming system was stolen. Using the PlayStation's serial number, police determined the gaming system was pawned at Money & More on Nov. 16 by 22-year-old Da'rell A. Henry.
A home invasion was reported on Dec. 26 in the 700 block of East Jefferson Street. The victim told police he was home alone when a man matching Henry's description entered the home, threatened the resident with a knife and demanded money. When the victim told the suspect he didn't have any money, the suspect took an Xbox gaming system and several pairs of shoes. The Xbox was later pawned at Video Games, Etc. in Coralville.
Police responded to a burglary in the 2000 block of Waterfront Drive on Jan. 7. Police said Henry kicked in the front door of the residence around 9 p.m. while the victim was sleeping. When the victim woke up, Henry fled the residence. Responding officers tracked boot prints in the snow, saw Henry running and eventually caught up with him on Broadway Street. Police matched Henry's boots to prints made impressions found in the snow and inside the Waterfront Drive residence.
Henry has been arrested and faces two counts of third-degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor, and second-degree burglary, a Class C felony. If convicted of all three charges, Henry could spend up to 14 years in prison.
