IOWA CITY — A dispute over a card game led to an arrest for an Iowa City man.
According to an Iowa City police criminal complaint, around 4:39 p.m. Sunday, 23-year-old Benjamin A. Mayes, Jr. was attending a family gathering at 1153 Cambria Court. Police said Mayes got into a “brief verbal altercation” over a card game with two other people and pulled a pistol on them twice.
During the second time he displayed the gun, Mayes allegedly told the two people he had “two bullets with both of your names on it,” police said.
Mayes was arrested and faces one count of assault while displaying a weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor. He was booked at the Johnson County Jail on June 21 and released later that day, according to jail records.
