Iowa City man arrested after gun threat

IOWA CITY - An Iowa City man is accused of punching a juvenile in the face and threatening him with a handgun.
According to an Iowa City police criminal complaint, around 7 p.m. on March 12, the juvenile victim was dropped off at a residence on Beldon Avenue after a separate investigation. Police said 18-year-old Cordell M. Mayfield got upset about the juvenile being dropped off by police and punched the boy in the face.
Police said Mayfield then grabbed a handgun, pointed it at the boy and said, 'You brought the police. You dead.”
The victim told police he thought Mayfield was going to shoot him.
Mayfield was arrested and faces one county of assault while displaying a weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison. Mayfield also had active warrants for failure to appear on charges of drunken driving and obstructing officers.
