Iowa City man accused of sexual abuse

SOLON - An Iowa City man is accused of sexually abusing a woman in Solon earlier this month.
According to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, the victim told investigators that around 3 a.m. on July 1, 31-year-old Joshua D. Simmons entered her bedroom and laid down beside her. Police said despite the woman telling Simmons to leave her alone, he forced himself upon her.
The woman had bruises and a sexual assault exam was conducted at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Emergency Room.
Simmons has been arrested and faces one count of third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
