IOWA CITY - An Iowa City man is accused of breaking into vehicles and trying to sell the stolen items on eBay.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, officers took multiple reports of thefts and vehicle burglaries during the month of August at the Hawks Ridge apartment complex. Residents there reported multiple items being stolen, including sunglasses, a GPS unit, a speaker, sneakers, a fishing pole, a hunting bow, tires and rims.
Police said items from two of the thefts were later found listed on eBay and were being sold by someone out of Iowa City. Using data from the National Crime Information Center, police and eBay records, investigators were able to home in on 21-year-old Noel MB Jose. Police served a search warrant at Jose's residence at 639 S. Lucas St. and recovered multiple items taken during the burglaries and thefts.
Jones admitted to stealing the items, police said. He was arrested and now faces five counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree theft, two counts of fourth-degree theft and one count of fifth-degree theft.
