Iowa City man accused of machete threat

IOWA CITY - An Iowa City man is accused of threatening a woman with a machete.
Around midnight Sunday morning, Iowa City police were called to a residence on Laura Drive for a domestic incident. Officers learned that the suspect, 24-year-old Jorge Maldonado, was inside with a knife and a one-year-old child. The female victim was outside the residence, police said.
Officers were able to make contact with Maldonado and place him in custody for officer safety. The victim told police Maldonado had threatened her with a machete. Maldonado allegedly forced the woman against a bed, held the machete against her throat and said he was going to kill her. The machete was found inside the residence.
Maldonado admitted to police multiple times that he wanted to kill the victim, police said.
Maldonado has been arrested and faces charges of going armed with intent, a Class D felony; three counts of second-offense domestic assault, an aggravated misdemeanor; first-degree harassment, an aggravated misdemeanor; and child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor.
