Iowa City man accused of damaging parked cars

IOWA CITY - An Iowa City man is accused of doing more than $10,000 damage to cars parked in a parking ramp.
According to an Iowa City police criminal complaint, around 3 a.m. on Sunday, 21-year-old Dakota J. Meyer was observed damaging a vehicle parked in the Dubuque Street parking ramp. Police said other vehicles in the immediate area were also damaged.
The damaged vehicles sustained shattered windows, cracked windshields, dented hoods and turns and broken wiper blades and turn signals.
Police said Meyer admitted to damaging one of the vehicles he thought was his, but could not explain why he damaged the others.
Police said the estimated total damage to all of the vehicles exceeds $10,000.
Meyer was arrested and faces one count of first-degree criminal mischief, a Class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
