Iowa City Fire Department conducts HAZMAT training in rail yard

May. 7, 2017 4:02 pm
IOWA CITY - The Iowa City Police Department completed hazardous materials training last month with help from the Iowa Interstate Railroad.
According to a fire department news release, the department did hazardous materials response training in April at the Iowa State Railroad's facility on Webster Street in Iowa City. There, crews simulated three scenarios and used special equipment to determine whether it was safe to enter a scene.
According to the fire department, the goal of the training was to acclimate firefighters to being comfortable in an unusual environment and to get practice using equipment in situations involving potentially hazardous materials.
