Iowa City duplex fire causes $75,000 in damage

IOWA CITY - A fire did approximately $75,000 in damage to an Iowa City duplex on Tuesday.

The Iowa City Fire Department responded to a building fire at 2614 Indigo Court at 4:16 p.m. Responding crews found the rear of the structure on fire with extension into the attic of unit 2608 Indigo Court. All residents were out of the duplex. One required assistance from a neighbor, according to the fire department.

Firefighters had the fire extinguished and under control within 30 minutes. They were assisted at the scene by the Iowa City Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance, MidAmerican Energy and the American Red Cross.

The fire damage to both units is estimated at $75,000. The building at 2622 Indigo Court also sustained exterior heat damage.

The fire still is under investigation.
