IOWA CITY - An Iowa City business owner is accused of assaulting and sexually abusing one of his employees last month.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, 49-year-old Donald E. Born, of Solon, is the owner of Iowa Business Supply, 804 S. Capitol St. Police said Born and a female employee were the only people in the office around 4 p.m. on June 11.
Police said Born grabbed the woman by the back of her head and smashed her face into her desk multiple times. Born then punched the woman in the face at least four times, police said. Police said Born threw the woman against a shelf, held her down and attempted to pull off her pants, police said. Born put his hands down the woman's pants and abused her, police said.
Police said the woman was able to 'temporarily reason” with Born, who stopped and allowed her to get up. The woman suffered multiple injuries that required treatment at a hospital, police said. Born was also hospitalized after the incident.
Born has been arrested and faces charges of third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony; and willful injury causing injury, a Class D felony. He was booked at the Johnson County Jail on Monday and remains in custody on a $100,000 cash bond. If convicted of both offenses, Born would face up to 15 years in prison.
Born has been ordered not to have contact with the alleged victim.
