Illinois woman faces charges after fence post assault

IOWA CITY - An Illinois woman is accused of assaulting a man with a fence post and pepper spray.

According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, officers responded to 2401 Highway 6 E. at 7:12 a.m. Monday for a report of a fight. The victim and a witness told police that 22-year-old Sashonia D. Brown, of South Holland, Ill., had gotten in a fight with the victim over a relationship dispute. Police said Brown hit the victim with a hollowed out fence post and tried to pepper spray him. She also used a grill lid to bust out a window, police said.

Police said Brown initially gave officers a fake name and did not reveal her true identity until she was placed under arrest. She admitted to breaking the window and hitting the victim - who did not suffer any injuries - with the fence post.

Brown faces charges of assault, fourth-degree criminal mischief and providing false information.
