Hiawatha man faces third drunken driving charge after hitting police squad car

HIAWATHA - A Hiawatha man has been charged with drunken driving for the third time after rear-ending a Hiawatha police cruiser.
According to the Linn County Attorney's Office, on Thursday morning, 32-year-old Brian C. Thorn crashed into a Hiawatha police cruiser. The crash happened in the 1000 block of Blairs Ferry Road.
An officer spoke with Thorn and determined he was under the influence of alcohol. A breath test at the Linn County Jail showed Thorn's blood alcohol content to be .228 percent, nearly three times the legal limit of .08, police said.
Thorn was arrested and has been charged with third-offense drunken driving. The county attorney's office said Thorn has two prior convictions for drunken driving.
