CEDAR RAPIDS - Attempted murder suspect Brandon Gordon will remain in custody on a $500,000 bond.
However, his attorney said he will be seeking to change that bond.
Gordon, 18, of Marion had an initial appearance before a judge Wednesday morning after turning himself in on a warrant Tuesday evening. According to the Linn County Sheriff's Office, Gordon's bond was set at $500,000 Tuesday night. Those bond conditions were ordered to continue Wednesday.
In addition, Gordon has been ordered to not have contact with the two people he's been accused of shooting at - Kirsten Meyer and Rodney Burt - as well as an unidentified juvenile.
Gordon was arrested after allegedly firing shots into a black Ford SUV at 12:19 p.m. Friday at the BP gas station at 4141 Center Point Road NE. Police said Gordon was trying to hit a 19-year-old man in the vehicle, but hit an 18-year-old woman in the SUV. She was hit at least once, police said.
Gordon was arrested 27 minutes later when he was found on foot near the intersection of 32nd Street and Eastern Avenue SE. He was charged with attempted murder, willful injury, two counts of intimidation with a dangerous weapon and two counts of going armed with intent.
An error in the sheriff offices computerized bond system didn't recognize Gordon's charges as forcible felonies, allowing him to post 10 percent of a $65,000 bond. When the error was discovered, the sheriff's office sought a warrant for Gordon's arrest.
Gordon's attorney, Urbandale-based Peter W. Berger, said his client did nothing wrong in bonding out. Additionally, when Berger and Gordon learned authorities were looking for him Tuesday, they immediately took actions to facilitate his surrender to authorities.
'We reported directly to the jail,” Berger said Wednesday.
Berger said based on his client's cooperation with authorities, he plans to file a bond review and seek a set of conditions that could allow his pretrial release.
