Gas leak closes North First Avenue in Iowa City

IOWA CITY - Portions of North First Avenue in Iowa City are closed for a gas leak.
Iowa City police said construction equipment hit an underground gas line in the 800 block of North First Avenue. Iowa City police and fire personnel have closed portions of the street. MidAmerican Energy is responding to the scene, as well.
The street is expected to reopen around 3 p.m. Monday or when repairs are completed and it is safe to travel in the area, police said.
