CEDAR RAPIDS — Former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will headline a fundraiser this month in Cedar Rapids for the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum.
The Hoover Presidential Foundation recently announced Rice will be the guest of honor and keynote speaker at the foundation’s celebration banquet Oct. 27 at the DoubleTree by Hilton in downtown Cedar Rapids
The foundation promotes and supports the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum and National Historic Site, and programs that foster understanding of Herbert Hoover as president and humanitarian. Hoover, who was elected president in 1928, is the only U.S. president born in Iowa, where he grew up in West Branch.
Rice, director of the Hoover Institution and a senior fellow on public policy at Stanford University, will be joined on stage by Margaret Hoover, host of the PBS series “Firing Line with Margaret Hoover,” for an “armchair discussion” about her career.
The foundation also will honor two Iowa state legislators, according to a news release.
Rice served as U.S. Secretary of State from 2005 to 2009 under former President George W. Bush, who headlined last year’s banquet and received a humanitarian award from the Hoover Presidential Foundation. Rice was the first Black woman to serve as Secretary of State and the first woman to serve as national security adviser.
