Flood recovery continues in Linn County

Sep. 28, 2016 3:09 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - The Cedar River continues to drop in flood-striken Palo.
According to Linn County Emergency Management, roughly 35 parcels in Palo are still surrounded by water. Authorities said the mandatory evacuation area in Palo remains to be controlled until preliminary damage assessments are complete.
In Cedar Rapids, the HESCO barriers surrounding the Linn County Sheriff's Office are being removed and the patrol, communications and administration divisions are continuing to operate out of the Marion Police Department. The sheriff's office did take on some water in the basement and a sump pump was installed to remove the water.
A sump pump is also in place in the subbasement of the Linn County Courthouse, which is experiencing seepage. Flood protection on May's Island will remain in place until the water levels dip below 16 feet, according to Emergency Management.
While most road closures remain in place, some roads have reopened:
- Anderson Road at Buffalo Creek Bridge
- Coggon Road, 2,000 feet east of Troy Mills Road for .2 miles
- Gard Road from Walker Road for 1,500 feet north
- Linn-Delaware Road west of Buffalo Creek Bridge to east of Buffalo Creek Bridge
- 2033 Wapsie Y Road to 2071 Wapsie Y Road
