Felon arrested after Iowa City juvenile accidentally shoots himself

May. 25, 2017 1:04 pm
IOWA CITY - A juvenile accidentally shot himself earlier this month with a gun illegally possessed by a felon, police said.
According to an Iowa City police criminal complaint, officers were called to Mercy Hospital around 7:44 p.m. May 3 for a juvenile suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg. Police determined the juvenile had found a gun hidden in a shed at 836 Hudson Ave., was playing with it and accidentally shot himself.
Police said three witnesses identified the gun as belonging to Edmund D. Green, 40, who was staying at the Hudson Avenue address. Green admitted the gun - a semi-automatic handgun - belonged to him.
Green was previously convicted of a felony, attempted armed robbery, in Illinois and is therefore prohibited from possessing a firearm. He was arrested and faces one count of possession of a firearm by a felon, a Class D felony.
