LINN COUNTY — Update 12:11 p.m.: Highway 13 has since been reopened to traffic.
Previous coverage:
Two people were hospitalized after a collision involving two semi-trailer trucks Monday morning.
Around 2:15 a.m., the Linn County Sheriff's Office, Linn County Hazmat, Area Ambulance, Iowa Department of Transportation and West Bertram Fire Department responded to a two vehicle injury collision at Highway 13 and Hess Lane. Authorities discovered that a semi operated by 62-year-old Debra Kiser of Nebraska had been rear ended by a semi driven by Joe Lomax, 63, of Des Moines.
Police said Lomax failed to see Kiser was pulling off to the side of the road and hit the rear of her vehicle.
Both Lomax and Kiser were taken to Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries, according to the sheriff's office.
The northbound right lane of Highway 13 between Blaine's Crossing and Hess Lane remained as of 9 a.m. due to the crash, according to the sheriff's office.
