BURR OAK - A Winneshiek County man was cited this week after authorities found two dozen dead calves on his property.
According to the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office, authorities received a complaint of neglected livestock at a farm west of Burr Oak on Oct. 3. A warrant was obtained for the farm and authorities discovered 24 dead calves on the property. An additional 20 calves were seized, authorities said.
Craig Underbakke, 51, of Decorah, faces charges of neglect of livestock, a serious misdemeanor; and multiple counts of failure to properly dispose of dead animals, a simple misdemeanor.
The sheriff's office said the seized animals have been taken to a private feed lot and are under the care of a local veterinarian.
