A crash involving a driver traveling the wrong way on Interstate 380 sent two to the hospital and closed down a portion of the highway for an hour Wednesday morning.
Cedar Rapids police Lt. Cody Estling said dispatchers received a report of a car driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Interstate 380 at 6:53 a.m. Wednesday. Shortly thereafter, police received word the call had been upgraded to a personal injury accident near Diagonal Drive.
Police said seven vehicles were involved in the crash. Two people were hospitalized, including the driver of the vehicle who was driving in the wrong direction. Police identified the driver as a man in his 70s and said they are looking into whether a medical condition contributed to the crash.
The right lane of Interstate 380 opened at 7:52 a.m. and the remaining lanes reopened at 8:14 a.m., police said.
No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing.
