NORTH LIBERTY - A Coralville man faces prison time for a condiment bottle assault.
According to North Liberty police criminal complaints, officers were called to J & A Tap around 12:21 a.m. Sunday for a bar fight. Officers met with the alleged victim, who had a cut on her forehead that went down to her skull.
Police reviewed a video of the altercation and determined 26-year-old Tyler J. Ratzlaff threw a glass condiment bottle at the woman. Ratzlaff admitted to throwing the bottle, but could not explain why he did it, police said. He smelled of alcohol and appeared to be intoxicated, but refused a breath test, police said.
Ratzlaff was arrested and faces charges of willful injury causing serious injury, a Class C felony; assault causing serious injury, a Class D felony; and public intoxication, a simple misdemeanor.
If convicted of all three offenses, Ratzlaff could spend up to 20 years in prison.
