Coralville man arrested in connection with armed robbery

CORALVILLE - A Coralville man previously arrested for a robbery in Iowa City now faces charges related to a Coralville robbery.

According to Coralville police criminal complaints, around 8:47 p.m. Nov. 13, 20-year-old Ali A. Ali grabbed another man's wallet at 877 22nd Ave. and took off running. Police said the victim ran after Ali and Ali pulled a gun on him.

Police said 30 minutes after the robbery, the victim's credit cards were used at a Kum & Go and a Walgreens.

Video footage from the robbery showed the suspect wearing white shoes, black pants and a black hooded jacket with a white marking on the left sleeve. Police said video footage from Kum & Go and Walgreens showed the suspect wearing clothes matching those in the robbery footage.

Ali was arrested in Hy-Vee for an unrelated incident following the robbery and was wearing white shoes, black pants, a black sleeveless vest and a black hooded jacket with a white logo on the left sleeve. He was also carrying the victim's credit cards, police said.

Ali faces charges of first-degree robbery, a Class B felony, and unauthorized use of a credit card, an aggravated misdemeanor.

Ali is also one of five men who have been arrested in connection with a Nov. 6 robbery in Iowa City. During that incident, police allege that Ali and others assaulted two people and stole items from another. Ali faces two counts of third-degree robbery and one count of riot for that incident. The charges are aggravated misdemeanors.
