CORALVILLE - A Coralville man is accused of stashing drugs inside pairs of tennis shoes.
According to Coralville police criminal complaints, on April 20, 2015, members of the Johnson County Drug Task Force executed a narcotics search warrant at a residence in the 2800 block of Coral Court. Officers met with a man who said he was the only one who lived at the residence.
Inside, officers found a room full of size 11 Michael Jordan tennis shoes. Police searched the shoes and found marijuana and mushrooms concealed inside. A further search of the residence turned up a digital scale and other drug paraphernalia.
Police spoke with a neighbor who admitted to buying marijuana from the resident's son, 31-year-old Matthew J. Sutton. Officers later spoke with Sutton, who said he did not live with his father, but kept some of his shoes at the residence. During their interaction, Sutton was wearing a pair of Jordan tennis shoes, police said.
Sutton has been arrested and faces two counts of possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in prison.
