Chicago man accused of sexual abuse in Iowa City

IOWA CITY - A Chicago man is accused of sexually abusing a young girl.

According to an Iowa City police criminal complaint, a detective was contacted on July 31 by an investigator with the Iowa Department of Human Services. The DHS investigator relayed allegations of child sexual abuse that happened in Iowa City sometime between the end of April and beginning of May.

Police said the victim, a girl under the age of 12, reported to a health care provider that 24-year-old Stephon H. Ross attempted to sexually assault her. Further investigation revealed more details about the sexual abuse, police said.

Ross has been arrested and faces one count of second-degree sexual abuse a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
