IOWA CITY - A Cedar Rapids woman faces a multitude of charges after a break-in and assault at an Iowa City residence.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, sometime around 2:30 a.m. Friday, 27-year-old Tiffany F. Bryant went to a residence on Triple Crown Lane in Iowa City and began knocking repeatedly on the door. When the resident didn't answer the door, Bryant climbed onto a garage and entered the victim's residence by removing a window screen and sliding open a bedroom window, police said.
After hearing sounds from her daughter's room, the victim went to the room and saw Bryant entering through the window. Police said the victim told Bryant to leave and Bryant responded by pulling the victim out of the room by her hair. Bryant then punched the victim in the eye with her fist.
Officers were called to the scene. When they arrived, they observed Bryant and the victim arguing inside the residence. The victim left the apartment and Bryant took off running, police said.
Police said Bryant was captured after a short foot chase and taken to the ground after resisting arrest. Bryant continued to resist during handcuffing, the trip to the Johnson County Jail and the booking process, police said. She had to be carried to a holding cell by jail deputies, according to the criminal complaint.
Bryant intentionally scratched one of the officers, causing small abrasions to his left wrist, police said.
Police said Bryant showed signs of intoxication during the incident, but refused a preliminary breath test.
Bryant faces charges of first-degree burglary, a Class B felony; public intoxication, a simple misdemeanor; interference with official acts causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor; assault on people in certain occupations causing bodily injury, an aggravated misdemeanor; and domestic abuse - third or subsequent offense. Police said Bryant has two prior convictions for domestic assault, both from 2011.
