LONE TREE - A Cedar Rapids woman is accused of helping to steal from her sister's home.
According to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, on Aug. 25, 2016, 32-year-old Lydia N. Burton went to her sister's home in Lone Tree with her boyfriend. Authorities said Burton knew no one would be home and she entered the garage entry code so she and her boyfriend could go inside.
The couple stole numerous electronic items and $500 in cash and Burton served as lookout, the sheriff's office said. Authorities said one item taken was a Dell laptop. The victims got a report from Microsoft Live the day after the burglary that the computer had used an IP address that was eventually connected to Burton and Reeves, police said.
Burton was eventually arrested by Williamsburg police when she was found driving a 2008 Dodge truck that had been reported stolen from a farm near Lone Tree in September 2016. Burton and her boyfriend were eventually found to be in possession of other items stolen from the same farm, including two hunting bows valued at more than $1,000.
Authorities said Burton admitted to her roles in the burglary and thefts. She now faces one count of third-degree burglary and two counts of second-degree theft. The offenses are Class D felonies, punishable by up to five years in prison.
