Cedar Rapids shooting sends two to hospital

CEDAR RAPIDS - A woman suffered a serious gunshot wound and a man suffered a traumatic injury during a shooting incident Saturday.

Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow said officers were called to 515 Ashton Place NE at 8:26 p.m. Saturday for a report of a disturbance after receiving multiple calls. Reports of a possible active shooter and 'conflicting accounts” on the number of victims resulted in a large number of officers responding to the scene, Buelow said.

After investigating the incident, police believe only two people were involved. The man and woman who suffered injuries are believed to be known to each other and police do not believe there is a threat to anyone else at the apartment complex, Buelow said.

The man and the woman were taken to the hospital and the investigation is ongoing. Buelow said more information will be released as it becomes available.
