CEDAR RAPIDS - Police caught a Cedar Rapids man hook, line and sinker after he tried to smuggle 30 fishing lures out of an area Wal-Mart.
According to a Linn County Attorney's Office criminal complaint, police were called to Wal-Mart, 3601 29th Ave. SW, on Aug. 15 for a theft in progress. When officers responded, the suspect - later identified as 52-year-old Leroy T. Walker - took off running.
Police captured Walker, who shoved an officer in the process, authorities said. After he was taken into custody, Walker was found to have 30 fishing lures shoved into his socks. The lures were valued at approximately $260.
Walker has been charged with fourth-degree theft, assault on a peace officer and interference with official acts.
