CEDAR RAPIDS - Police are investigating a late night shooting and robbery.
Cedar Rapids communications coordinator Maria Johnson said officers were called to First Avenue and Edgewood Road NW at 11:30 p.m. Jan. 27 for reports of a shooting. There, police found the 18-year-old gunshot victim. He had been robbed as well, Johnson said.
The robbery and shooting was discovered just hours after police responded to a shots fired incident near 16th Street and Bever Avenue SE. In that incident, the shooting was reported at 7:30 p.m. A house in the 300 block of 16th Street was hit, but no injuries were reported, police said.
Johnson said police are investigating the shootings as two separate incidents.
'I don't believe they are connected,” she said.
The robbery victim was treated at the hospital for non-life threatening injuries and has since been released, Johnson said. The motive for the shooting and robbery is currently unknown.
Both shootings remain under investigation and Johnson said she had no new information to share about the 16th Street shooting. Anyone with information on either shooting is asked to call the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
