Cedar Rapids Police Department warns about credit card scheme

Nov. 18, 2015 9:47 am
CEDAR RAPIDS - Cedar Rapids police are warning citizens about a recent financial scheme.
According to police, citizens are receiving phone calls telling them their credit cards have been blocked and they need to enter their 16-digit card numbers to unblock the cards. In some cases, the caller claims they are Bank of America credit and debit cards even if the citizen doesn't have a Bank of America card, police said.
Police said financial institutions will not ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone and citizens should never give that information over the phone in calls that you did not initiate. Anyone who receives these calls is asked to hang up and not respond to any requests.
