CEDAR RAPIDS - Cedar Rapids police arrested a fugitive wanted on weapons charges and other offenses.
According to public safety spokesman Greg Buelow, around 11:47 a.m. Monday, a police officer recognized a wanted subject getting out of a car that was parked behind a business in the 1500 block of First Avenue SE. Police attempted to arrest the suspect after he exited the business. A struggle ensued and the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Kristopher C. Gardner, was taken into custody.
Police said Gardner had active warrants, including two counts of failure to appear for control of firearms and offensive weapons by a felon, two counts of revocation of probation for third-degree burglary, possession of a controlled substance and fourth-degree theft.
After Monday morning's incident, Gardner was also charged with interference with official acts causing injury. Buelow said two officers were injured while taking Gardner into custody.
