CEDAR RAPIDS - Authorities say a Cedar Rapids police officer was injured Wednesday after he was dragged by a car.
Cedar Rapids police officer Ian Compton pulled over Phillip L. Rogers, 42, of Cedar Rapids, in the 1500 block of 33rd Avenue SW for a traffic violation around 3:01 a.m. After making the stop, Compton learned Rogers was driving with a suspended license, according to the Linn County Attorney's Office.
When Rogers was told he was under arrest, he refused to get out of his vehicle, authorities said. As the officer tried to remove Rogers from the vehicle, Rogers started the vehicle, put it in drive and began to accelerate, according to authorities. The officer was injured after being dragged, authorities said.
Rogers then stopped his vehicle and fled on foot. Other responding officers took him into custody without any further incident.
City spokeswoman Maria Johnson said Compton did not suffer any serious injuries.
Rogers faces charges of assault on a peace officer causing bodily injury and interference with official acts causing bodily injury.
