Cedar Rapids motorcycle rider seriously hurt in collision with deer

CENTER POINT - A Cedar Rapids man faces life threatening injuries after colliding with a deer while riding his motorcycle.
The Linn County Sheriff's Office, Center Point fire and ambulance and St. Luke's Lifeguard responded to a report of a motorcycle crash around 1:32 a.m. Friday at Lewis Access Road and Cedar Heights Trail, southwest of Center Point.
Authorities determined 58-year-old Michael Long was northbound on Lewis Access Road when he hit a deer, causing him to lose control of the motorcycle. Long was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. He was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with life threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
