CEDAR RAPIDS - A mobile home was damaged by fire Monday night.
According to a Cedar Rapids Fire Department media release, crews were called to 205 Mitchell St. SW at 6:10 p.m. for a report of a mobile home on fire. Police officers arrived on the scene first and reported smoking was coming from the door of the home and all occupants were out.
Responding firefighters entered the home and encountered heavy smoke and moderate heat. The fire was located and put out. Firefighters were required to cut a hole in the roof of the home to remove smoke and heat.
The fire department said the owners of the home had left for a short period of time and discovered the home on fire when they returned. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and the occupants are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
