CEDAR RAPIDS - A Cedar Rapids man found in possession of marijuana and a firearm has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison.
According to the U.S. Attorneys Office for the Northern District of Iowa, police pulled over 31-year-old Anthony S. Hall, Jr. on April 13. A search of Hall's vehicle turned up 63 individually wrapped bags of marijuana and a .40 caliber pistol.
Police said Hall gave officers a fake name and date of birth. When officers tried to place him under arrest, he tried to flee and assaulted one of the officers.
A search of Hall's cellphone revealed text messages related to the sale of marijuana and a photo showing Hall with a firearm.
Hall was found guilty in June of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm by a felon and drug user and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
In addition to his 30-year sentence, Hall will serve a five-year term of supervised release after the prison term.
