Cedar Rapids man found with stolen handgun

CEDAR RAPIDS - A Cedar Rapids man was found to be in possession of a stolen handgun when he called police to report a disturbance Friday morning.

According to public safety spokesman Greg Buelow, police responded to the 1200 block of Third Avenue SE around 7:36 a.m. Friday after 30-year-old DeWayne E. Holloway, Jr. called to say that a man was trying to break into his apartment. Holloway told police the man had a bar or a pipe and had already broken his mailbox.

When police arrived on the scene, Holloway showed up in a vehicle. Officers determined the incident Holloway reported was actually a disagreement between Holloway, another man and a woman. Holloway was also found to be in possession of a stolen handgun and marijuana.

Holloway has been arrested on one count of driving with a suspended license, but Buelow said other charges in the incident are pending.
