Cedar Rapids Man Faces Gun Charge In Waterloo

WATERLOO, Iowa — A Cedar Rapids man faces a weapons charge after being found with a loaded gun in Waterloo on Sunday.
According to the Waterloo Police Department, on June 22, officer's with the department's Violent Crime Apprehension Team made contact with 26-year-old Ezekiel C. Phillips, Jr. of Cedar Rapids and 23-year-old Tyranius M. Nelsen of Iowa City after responding to a loud car stereo.
Police said during their contact with the men, Nelson was making suspicious movements inside the car and they noticed an open bottle of liquor. Police searched the vehicle and found a loaded .38 revolver in the center console of the car. Marijuana was found on Nelson, police said.
Both men were taken into custody. Phillips faces one count of carrying weapons and Nelson faces a charge of possession of marijuana.
