CEDAR RAPIDS - A Cedar Rapids man has been arrested in Illinois for allegedly stabbing another man earlier this week.
The stabbing occurred Wednesday after what the Lake County, Ill., Sheriff's Office referred to as a 'road rage incident,” in the area of Route 12 and Volo Village Road in the village of Volo, a community north of Chicago.
Scott A. Schultz, 45, of Cedar Rapids, has been charged with aggravated battery by use of a deadly weapon, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and aggravated battery upon a public roadway.
The stabbing occurred around 3:50 p.m. on Sept. 17.
Lake County Sheriff Sgt. Sara Balmes said the victim and Schultz were stopped at an intersection when Schultz honked at the victim. The victim responded with a gesture and Schultz drove around the victim and cut him off. The two men continued to cut each other off until they pulled off the road.
Balmes said what started as a fist fight escalated when Schultz went to his vehicle, retrieved a knife and stabbed the other man.
The responding deputy said the victim suffered a 'major injury” to his leg near the femoral artery, requiring the deputy to apply a tourniquet and control the bleeding. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital.
Police said the public submitted numerous tips, including cellphone pictures and vehicles. A statewide broadcast describing the projected path of the subject and vehicle led to Schultz' arrest in Morrison, Ill., near the Iowa border.
Schultz' bond has been set at $25,000. He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 6.
