Cedar Rapids man charged in Coralville cab robbery

CORALVILLE - A Cedar Rapids man is accused of robbing a cabdriver in Coralville last month.
According to Coralville police, around 12:30 a.m. Oct. 12, Michael A. Hobbs Jr., 26, was a passenger in a taxi. Police said when the destination was reached, Hobbs put a handgun to the cabdriver's head and demanded cash.
Authorities said Hobbs has previous felony convictions out of Illinois and is barred from possessing a firearm.
Hobbs was arrested on Nov. 17 and faces charges of first-degree robbery and possession of a firearm by a felon, both felonies. If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison.
