Cedar Rapids man arrested in connection with Fayette County sex abuse

FAYETTE COUNTY - A Cedar Rapids man has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault investigation.

Around 3:30 a.m. Thursday, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office took a report of a sexual assault that had taken place in Elgin. An investigation into the matter showed that a 45-year-old woman was at her home when Devin Cummings, 49, of Cedar Rapids, sexually assaulted her.

Cummings was arrested and faces one count of third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Authorities said the victim was treated at the Palmer Hospital in West Union and was put into contact with victim services.

The investigation is ongoing and more charges could be filed at a later date, the sheriff's office said.
