Cedar Rapids man accused of robbery, assault on officer

CEDAR RAPIDS - A Cedar Rapids man is accused of robbing a tobacco and liquor outlet and assaulting an officer.
According to the Linn County Attorney's Office, 37-year-old Miguel R. Rojas entered Smokin' Joes, 904 First Ave. NW, on Sunday. Police said Rojas was armed and intended to steal money from the business.
Rojas was apprehended by a Cedar Rapids police officer. Authorities said Rojas attempted to hit the officer and hit him with a cup of water. Police also found a pipe on Rojas.
He was arrested and has been charged with second-degree robbery, assault on a peace officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.
