Cedar Rapids Joint Communication Center experiencing technical difficulties

Dec. 6, 2016 11:00 am
CEDAR RAPIDS - The backup plan for receiving cellular 911 calls has been implemented as the Cedar Rapids Joint Communications Center works to address technical difficulties.
Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow said 911 calls made from a cellphone are being rerouted to Johnson County 911. Dispatchers are still able to receive those calls and dispatch Cedar Rapids emergency personnel without any delay, Buelow said.
Buelow said there could be instances in which a 911 call from a cellphone does not reach a 911 dispatcher. In that case, callers should call 319-286-5491 or use a landline, Buelow said.
The city is working with state officials and other partners to address the issues, Buelow said.
