Cedar Rapids Fire Department offers women’s academy

CEDAR RAPIDS - The Cedar Rapids Fire Department hosts an academy this summer for young women.
The inaugural Fully Involved Young Women's Fire Academy takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 31 through Aug. 3. It is designed for young women, ages 15-19, who have an interest in a career as a firefighter.
Academy participants will put on firefighting gear, do search and rescue drills, become certified in CPR and take the physical qualification test, according to a news release. The academy aims to promote leadership and team-building skills.
Cost is $30.
