Cedar Rapids crash kills one, closes street

CEDAR RAPIDS — A woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash in southwest Cedar Rapids Wednesday morning.

Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow said the crash happened at 11:34 a.m. on J Street SW, just north of Hawkeye Downs Road NW. Police are still on the scene, but Buelow said the crash involved a car, SUV and pickup.

Buelow said a woman in the car was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman and child were extricated from the SUV and taken via ambulance to a hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. A man driving the pickup went to the hospital in a private vehicle, Buelow said.

J Street SW at the crash scene was closed while authorities dealt with the crash. It was expected to open later Wednesday.
